What should I expect from on my first visit?
Please wear or bring gym shorts and undergarments or bathing suit. Dress to your comfort. Shorts are ideally loose and sports bras/bathing suits easily open to the back to allow for areas to be treated. MFR is hands on and requires skin contact to multiple areas of the body to achieve results. Visits will include a postural assessment and evaluation of your symptoms to best direct your treatment.

How do I prepare for my treatment?
Please ensure you do not use any oils or lotions on your body the day of treatment. These make it difficult to obtain long, slow releases of the collagen layer which is essential for MFR.
Stay hydrated! While receiving regular treatments, it is beneficial to take in more water for healing.
Please avoid any perfumes which may trigger allergic reactions in other clients.

How is MFR different from traditional physical therapy or massage?
The John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach® is based on 50 years of pioneering research in the field of alternative physical therapy. It is widely recognized as an innovative and highly effective whole-body approach for evaluating and treating pain and dysfunction. It is a very safe hands-on form of physical therapy. The therapist applies gentle but firm pressure to the affected area and may also include craniosacral techniques for whole body balancing. With traditional physical therapy or massage techniques, you may feel better temporarily but results do not last. This is because the collagen layer of the fascial system has not been addressed or impacted in any way. The pressure placed upon the body by fascial restrictions is equal to 2000lbs per square inch!

Do you accept insurance?
MYOwn Healing PT and MFR is an out of network provider and does not participate with any insurance companies. You will need to pay for your visit out of pocket when you come in. You can submit any receipts to your insurance company for reimbursement if you desire. MYOwn Healing PT and MFR does not submit to your insurance. You may call your insurance company in advance to ask for details on coverage with your plan for “out of network” physical therapy benefits. It is also beneficial to know in advance what paperwork they require to be submitted for your reimbursement.
-
Do I need a prescription?
You do not need a prescription to start treatment through Direct Access.
In the State of Pennsylvania, it is legal to see a Physical Therapist for evaluation and treatment without a physician’s order for 30 days. After 30 days, you will need to obtain a physician’s prescription to continue therapy.
Your prescription may be written by a physician (MD or DO), physician’s assistance (PA-C), Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP), Dentist or podiatrist. The order should state, “Physical Therapy Evaluate and Treat” and also include a diagnosis.
If you intend to submit for insurance reimbursement, it is advised to obtain a prescription since it is often required.

Why haven't any standard tests found the cause of my symptoms?
Many of the standard tests including x-ray, MRI, CT scan, electromyography, myelogram, etc do NOT show fascial restrictions. Because of this, it is thought that a very high percentage of people suffering from pain and impaired mobility may have problems rooted in their fascial system.

How long will it take before I see improvement in my symptoms?
This is different for each person. It can depend on factors such as the severity of your symptoms and for how long you have been experiencing them. Every individual will experience their own unique response to MFR treatments in their own time. Remember, MFR treatment is gentle, consistently effective and will not harm you. After your initial visit and treatment, we will have a better idea of how to progress. Typically, at least a few sessions are needed to respond to treatment and get lasting results. I recommend self-reflection regarding how invested you are in reaching your goals and your desire to have an active role in your healing journey.
